On the 12th of May, we are hosting a 1-day intensive workshop for beginners and more advanced food photographers!
The workshop will be a BUSY day but will nourish you with a supper-club-style lunch, plenty of creative fun, and an opportunity to connect with like-minded people in a friendly and welcoming environment.
The day starts at 9 and ends at 4:30, and to be able to attend, you need to have a basic understanding of your camera setting and the urge to grow and learn!
During the workshop, you will learn the foundations and more advanced techniques of food photography composition, easy-to-apply colour theory and storytelling, the pillar of successful food photography. Plenty of beautiful food and ingredients will be available.
You will also learn to use the manual camera setting to capture movement, light and human elements in your pictures, the editing skills that will set you apart and make clear how the colour composition should work in your photos and the portfolio.
You will learn my content creation strategies to beat the overwhelm of constantly producing new and exciting content. You will also learn how I work with my clients’ visions to bring their products to life in “credible” and unstaged compositions.
Why we wanted this workshop
One of the moments I learned the most was shadowing and assisting professional photographers shooting for magazines. It’s a rare opportunity, and I knew I wanted to recreate a similar experience for my students.
What can you expect
You will attend a guided demonstration and guided hands-on experience in creative composition, showing how colours, textures and styling choices create the perfect portfolio to attract your audience and clients.
You will learn applicable techniques that can be used to develop your unique style, and students will witness our carefully explained processes.
What will happen, in a nutshell
Demonstrations
The day will start quite early with an extended demonstration of our food photography. You will owne our composition choices and the why behind them. You will learn how to use camera lenses and manual settings so you can capture movement (like candle smoke) and learn the best angles to capture each composition correctly. This is a massive learning opportunity guided by both Aimee and me and the chance to capture plenty of portfolio shots.
Hands-on practice
We will provide you with 3 recipes created by Aimee and me to choose from, and you will be able to challenge yourself and try to create your own pictures under our guidance. This’s a great opportunity to implement what you just learned, collaborate in a real work environment, and have the chance to ask the questions that naturally arise as you try yourself! You will receive constructive criticisms and be helped to reason through your choices so you go home with as much knowledge as possible!
What is provided
Plenty of props, beautiful ingredients and backgrounds will be provided. Coffee, tea and snacks will also be available to share during planned breaks.
We’ll gather around a long table for a delicious supper club-style lunch, connect in person, and learn in a friendly + welcoming, hands-on environment.
The second part of the day
The day will move to its second part with a mini supper club-style lunch. After the cake (of course, there’s cake!), you will sit for an advanced editing session in Lightroom. You will be able to tackle foundations as well as advanced techniques like colour calibration, troubleshooting and presets.
The workshop ends with a Q&A session so you can ask all remaining doubts.
So prepare for an intensive but incredibly nourishing ride!
